Ole Miss DB Travaris Banks plans to enter NCAA transfer portal
Ole Miss DB Travaris “TJ” Banks plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Banks is a former four-star recruit.
Banks spent two seasons with the Rebels, having the best year of his career so far in 2025. Banks logged 20 tackles and a pass breakup across 10 games of production. He tallied five tackles in Ole Miss’ three games in the College Football Playoff. As a true freshman in 2024, Banks finished with four tackles in three appearances.
Before college, Banks was a four-star recruit in the 2024 recruiting class according to the Rivals Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. Banks was rated as the No. 343 overall player in the country that cycle as well as the No. 30 overall safety. He’s an Alabama native and held offers from the likes of Tennessee, Mississippi State, Alabama and Florida State coming out of high school.
Banks leaves Ole Miss following arguably the most memorable season in Rebels football history. Not only did Ole Miss finish the regular season 11-1 (the most wins in a regular season in school history), but the Rebels also made the College Football Playoff for the first time as well.

The Rebels would go on to beat Tulane 41-10 during a home playoff game. They followed that up with a statement 39-34 win over Georgia — the only team who beat Ole Miss during the regular season — before falling to the Miami Hurricanes in the national semifinal.
Townsend is the 10th player to decide to enter the portal from Ole Miss’ roster last season. They’ve already reloaded with 14 commitments and has the No. 6-ranked portal class in the country according to On3’s 2026 Team Transfer Portal Rankings. That’s good for tops in the SEC as of this writing.
