UCLA QB Luke Duncan plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal
UCLA redshirt-sophomore QB Luke Duncan plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, per On3’s Pete Nakos.
Duncan played in just two games this season, including a start against No. 1 Ohio State in place of an injured Nico Iamaleava. In the 48-10 loss, Duncan completed 16 of 23 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown.
The news of Duncan’s transfer comes one day after it was announced that Iamaleava had re-signed with the program and newly hired head coach Bob Chesney (formerly at James Madison). In his first season at UCLA, Iamaleava compiled 1,928 passing yards and 13 touchdowns with seven interceptions. His return left no other option for Duncan, who has two years of eligibility remaining.
UCLA‘s 2025 season was an odd one, as head coach Deshaun Foster was fired following an 0-3 start to the season. He was replaced by coach Tim Skipper, who was elevated from special assistant to the head coach to the interim head coach. Under Skipper, the Bruins went 3-6 and finished the season with a 3-9 record.

With a College Football Playoff experienced head coach in Chesney coming in, along with returning a talented quarterback in Iamaleava, hopes are high across the program for an improved season in 2026. Duncan will not be sticking around to see it, however.
Prior to enrolling at UCLA, Duncan was ranked as a three-star prospect and the No. 552 overall player in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus. He was the No. 33-ranked QB in his class and the No. 46 overall player from the state of California, hailing from Miramonte.
