***Nugget on top UA target...

We continue to hear good things about Alabama and the chances of landing running back Tai Phillips. So good in fact, it's possible he could have a decision sooner rather than later, and if he does, we expect that decision to be Alabama. Phillips has official visits set up with Florida State (June 5) and Alabama (June 12), but after talking to sources, it's possible he only ends up taking one of them. On Thursday, the Irmo High School standout took an unofficial visit to Tallahassee, and the Noles have been putting the full-court press on him. But the Tide, led by Robert Gillespie, is in the driver's seat, per those same sources. He has not announced a decision date yet, but it is possible he's off the board in the not-too-distant future. As we've noted several times, the UA staff would like to take two running backs, as long as it's the right two. On Sunday, they got one in Nigel Newkirk, who was a top priority and committed right after his official visit to The Captone. An interesting development is Trey Martin and Kingston Miles both have official visits planned for Tuscaloosa this weekend. Miles is coming off a visit to Auburn, and Martin was in Baton Rouge this past weekend, both were officials. There is a lot that still has to play out, but time could be of the essence for that second running back spot. But UA likes where they currently sit. We will keep you posted as we learn more.

Is Phillips highly underrated or is this a safety net move because Martin isn’t a guarantee?

Wrapping up the RB room in one weekend. I dig it. Wouldn’t mind them taking a quality transfer this offseason too.

Phillips is a legit 4.4 RB who has averaged 10 yards per carry over his last 2 seasons. Doesn't sound like a safety net to me. He's elite, imo.

I don’t keep up as much these days so I’m more stargazing lately. If that’s the case, it’s strange he isn’t at least a highly ranked 4 star. That sounds like he’s severely underrated which was my question to begin with.

Tim or bone might can give more detail but he attended a camp recently and put up good numbers. Maybe a Gibbs type RB?

believe Bone said it was first come first serve between newkirk and martin with Phillips being the one with a spot no matter what. Staff seems pretty high on him

Phillips is very high on the Bama board. Not sure anyone is a guarantee but Bama was leading for Martin as well heading into OVs. And he's schedule to come in this weekend, but that could change. Phillip is a priority.

Highly regarded by Alabama. He’s had a green light for a while.

They worked him hard because they were worried he was close to making a decision. But you are kinda right if this plays out like we expect it to.
