Why kids are leaving UT Baseball

The reasons may come down to more than these listed but certainly they are amongst the main ones: Some kids see themselves as not able to play at this high level and want to go where they can compete.. The position room for them is very crowded and they realize their chances are 50-50 where the chances elsewhere could be easier They just simply don’t like Knoxville or playing at UT Even though Elander gets credit for recruiting a lot of these players, these guys came here to play for Tony, period. And who wouldn’t rather play for a coach that is energized and bold versus a coach is much less gung ho and firey (and has proven the know how to win) Chemistry of the teammates.. didn’t seem as “there” this year as in the past And of course Money, Money, Money… no doubt a factor. Sure there are others but these are probably in the top 6-7. Regardless Tennessee’s BB is at a critical crossroads and the future could very easily be based on what happens in the next few months. Being a decent team or being one of the Top Teams in the NCAA like they were under Tony is on the table

Agree, and I see it as a great opportunity to upgrade. I'm very interested to see things play out, as I think most of us know where we need to improve. Particularly in the SEC, there is a fine line between a contender or a pretender.

the biggest reason is the season was a failure, losing isn’t fun and it’s not fun to be on a team that underachieves. Some guys self select out and some are pushed out, but we for sure need a complete roster makeover

That is absolutely not the biggest reason why guys are portaling out (or even a major reason). If it was, LSU would have trouble fielding a team next season...you think that's gonna be the case?

Knock on wood but no one has left yet that we "had to keep". They were either pushed out, told they did not have a great chance of playing here, or that they would have to take less money to stay

To date not a single portal entry is a loss of production. I think Cash Williams will do really well wherever he ends up but as Barnes says..in today’s game you pay for production not potential.

And that's the reason for just about everyone in the portal especially when you factor in asking price.

How about “they want to play instead of watching from the dugout”.

Sure, the staff sat them down and told them their chances of playing, their value, etc, and they make a decision from there.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Elander was the primary recruiter for most of those guys and the team was very outspoken about him being the next head coach. I'm sure losing TV plays a small part in some leaving, but I don't think that it's a primary factor.

Annual deal. Everyone we want to keep is staying or they will announce later after all the negotiations for next years NIL are completed that they are entering the portal. The people already gone were shown the door or were offered much lower than they think they are worth.

In this new world of college sports, this process is now an annual event. The coaches try hard to keep a certain core and then start their own shopping list. Just get used to it.

Are we not used to the portal yet? It's not like it's a mass exodus. You're going to lose a few every off-season.
