Tennessee EDGE Emmanuel Okoye out for season due to injury

Tennessee EDGE Emmanuel Okoye will miss the entire 2024 season due to a torn ACL, according to Austin Price of Volquest.

Okoye suffered the injury towards the end of fall camp. With the loss due to injury, Tennessee is a little thinner at the position.

Okoye began his career as a tight end last summer when he arrived from the NFL Academy in London. Once he moved to the defensive side of the ball, Okoye found his footing.

“You think about where he was 12 months ago and where he’s at today,” head coach Josh Heupel said last year. “It’s a drastic difference in the competition and everything that he’s facing.”

With Okoye out for the year, Tennessee has to press on. The Volunteers dominated with a 69-3 win over Chattanooga over the weekend.

“First of all, just thanks to all the fans,” Heupel said after the game. “Hot day out there. They showed up early, Vol Was was electric. The stadium was juicy right from the beginning. Appreciate all of them coming out. It has been a long time since we’ve been in there. So great to see them back again. Liked a lot of the things that we did in all three phases of the game. Defensively, I thought just the line of scrimmage did a really nice job, played good third-down defense, tight coverage for most of it. Really a lot of positives on that side of football. 

“Offensively, did some really good things early. Got to learn how to stay dialed in and finish a half, a quarter of the football game. But all in all good day. And obviously specialists did a really, really good job for most of the day.”
