DJ Warner Scouting Reports

2 Reports
  1. Deshawn Warner a top performer at All-American Bowl

    Charles Power1/6/24

Deshawn Warner was arguably the most dynamic pass rusher on hand in San Antonio – particularly notable as EDGE was one of the deeper position groups at the even. The Arizona native’s first step and get-off allowed him to win the majority of his reps during the 1-on-1 periods throughout practice. His explosiveness was on full display during the All-American Bowl, as he tallied two tackles for loss and two sacks. The electric edge defender lived in the backfield and gave offensive tackles fits with his bend and speed rush ability. The Kansas Jayhawks are getting a defender who has a nuanced pass-rush skill set and a motor that doesn’t stop until the opposing ball carrier is on the ground. Warner had definitely increased his stock with the performance in San Antonio.

  2. Deshawn Warner Scouting Summary

    Primary
    Charles Power12/15/23

Dynamic speed rusher who presents a mismatch off the edge. Has unverified size, listed at around 6-foot-4, 215 pounds. Does not appear to have an overly large frame. A senior riser who emerged as a blue-chip recruit late in his high school career. Primarily lines up as a stand-up pass rusher on Friday nights. Cat-quick off the edge. Shows a plus first step, darting into the backfield. Flexible, showing the ability to turn the corner at high speeds. Operates with an encouraging level of coordination and technical skill. Naturally slippery. Hits offensive tackles with a quick jab step before shooting inside. Doesn’t give up if initially blocked, making some second-effort plays behind the line of scrimmage. Physical at the point of attack and displays some pop in his hands. Explodes into ball carriers. Flashes range and play speed in pursuit. Finished his senior season with 16 sacks, 20 TFL and two interceptions. A plus athlete who was a state finalist in two disparate events in track and field - the shot put and triple jump. Posted a personal best of 44-8.75 feet in the shot put and 41-2 feet in the triple jump. Appears to be lighter and will need to fill out his frame in order to hold up against the run as an every down defender.
