Johntay Cook II Scouting Reports

5 Reports
  1. Johntay Cook shows off route-running skills at Under Armour All-America Game practices

    Charles Power1/3/23

Johntay Cook II consistently worked himself open throughout the week of practice. The Texas signee was easily one of the top three route runners at the event with the ability to separate at multiple levels.

  2. Johntay Cook flashes route-running ability at Under Armour Future 50

    Charles Power7/16/22

Texas wide receiver commit Johntay Cook II would’ve landed on the Top Performers list had he not had a few lapses in concentration over the course of the day at Future 50. After Zachariah Branch, Cook looked to be the second most talented receiver on hand. The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder is a technical route-runner with very good change of direction. He was able to separate on some top defensive backs and rebounded from an up-and-down morning session to make some nice plays in 7-on-7.

  3. Johntay Cook II Scouting Summary

    Primary
    Charles Power4/8/22

Smooth-moving receiver who is one of the best route-runners in the 2023 cycle. Shows the ability to tempo and toggle speeds within his routes. Has outstanding initial quickness and easily stacks corners off the line, particularly when working from the slot. Very polished having worked with individual trainers. Can win at all levels of the field. Has long arms with a 6-foot-4 wing-span at 5-foot-11.5, 175 pounds. Shows the ability to track the ball over his shoulder and has the capability of coming down with high-point grabs. Highly productive while playing top competition as a senior, catching 86 passes for 1,534 yards and 22 touchdowns while leading DeSoto to a state title. Quicker than fast, but long speed appears to be solid. Will need to continue improving on his reliability as a pass-catcher and eliminate concentration drops but showed some progress on that front as a senior.

  4. Johntay Cook a top performer Battle Dallas

    Sam SpiegelmanNational Recruiting Analyst3/27/22

Johntay Cook made a compelling case to be the MVP. As a wide receiver, Cook brought the fireworks to each of his games since arriving late Saturday night. The top-50 recruit was carving up defensive backs with fantastic route-running and was equally as impressive on the receiving end. That includes home-run balls downfield throughout the weekend. The On300 wide receiver also showed great body control and aggressiveness competing for the ball. He was locked in and it showed. Cook brings explosiveness to a receiving corps and was in a rhythm on Saturday and Sunday.

  5. Johntay Cook top performer Battle Vegas

    Sam SpiegelmanNational Recruiting Analyst2/20/22

Cook was prolific out of the slot. He was certainly the No. 1 target for Pierce Clarkson and the two rarely missed. The four-star wide receiver can win downfield and is impressive in space. He’s exceptionally quick off the line with pure straight-line speed. Cook caught everything thrown his direction over the weekend.
