Mario Cristobal visits Oregon commit amid questions about future

Mario Cristobal has been in the news the last few days about him potentially leaving Oregon for his alma mater of Miami.

But despite the rumors, Cristobal has been hitting the road recruiting and stopped by the home of Draper (Utah) Corner Canyon four-star linebacker and Oregon commit Harrison Taggart on Saturday night.

Associate head coach/defensive line coach Joe Salave’a and co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Ken Wilson also made a visit to Taggart’s home

Mario Cristobal was an offensive tackle at Miami during the program’s heyday in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He won two national championships at the school has served as a graduate assistant/regular assistant coach at the school for six seasons over two previous stints.

Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger reported that Cristobal has until midday Monday to accept the job at Miami — which is still not open as the Hurricanes still have Manny Diaz as their head coach.

If Mario Cristobal does not accept or does not make a decision, the Hurricanes would elect to keep Diaz.

Harrison Taggart is the No. 258 overall player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Taggart announced his commitment on Oct. 17. He is one of 15 four-star recruits in the Ducks recruiting class, which ranks 10th in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking.

“I’m choosing Oregon because of the environment and coaches,” Taggart told OregonLive.com. “I like the college-town feel and the family feel on the football team.”
