WATCH: 4-star LB Jaquez Wilkes talks Auburn commitment
Auburn on Monday afternoon landed a commitment from four-star linebacker Jaquez Wilkes from Wadley (Ala.). AuburnSports’ Caleb Jones spoke to Wilkes after his decision.
Wilkes chose the Tigers over Alabama, Miami, Texas A&M, and others. The Aggies gave Auburn a fight up until the end, but the in-state school prevailed.
“It is Auburn… War Eagle. That is about all I can say,” Wilkes told Rivals’ Chad Simmons. “I have visited Auburn for games, practices and I would go over there during the week for random visits, so I have been there too many times to count. How I was always welcomed made a difference. Everyone showed love, everyone made me feel wanted and it was home.

“Everyone at Auburn is like one big family. From the coaches to the players, everyone is together and everyone is family. That environment drew me all the way and made me want to be there.”
Tigers’ defensive coordinator DJ Durkin played a big part in Wilkes’ commitment decision.
“Coach Durkin played a major role in my commitment,” Wilkes told AuburnSports’ Jeffrey Lee. “He’s a great guy. He’s honest and truthful and a hell of a coach. I don’t have anything bad to say about him. Him being my position coach and also the defensive coordinator played a big role, too.”
