GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators set two school records for home runs in their 22-10 win over in-state rival Miami on Saturday night in the Gainesville Regional. UF stayed undefeated against the Hurricanes this season and leads the all-time series at 139-136-1.

The Gators hit seven homers, a program record in the NCAA Tournament, and left the yard five times in the eighth, which marked an overall school record for an inning. Florida scored six runs in the first and had a pair of seven spots in the sixth and eighth innings.

Miami struck first with a leadoff homer by Jake Ogden, but the Gators took a 6-1 lead in the bottom half as Cade Kurland hit a three-run shot. Karson Bowen homered in the third and Brendan Lawson scored Florida’s eighth run on a throwing error in the fourth.

The Hurricanes rallied, totaling seven runs from the third to fifth inning to tie the game. After a 1-2-3 frame by Jackson Barberi, the Gators scored seven runs in the sixth on one hit — Kyle Jones’ three RBI double — as four UM relivers issued five free passes, including two-bases loaded walks. One of them came home on a wild pitch, an E6 scored another run and Lawson was also hit by a pitch.

The Hurricanes added two runs on three hits against Barberi in the eighth before Florida’s offense erupted. UF scored seven more runs on seven hits, including the second homers of the game by Kurland and Bowen in between three consecutive jacks from Lawson, Cyr and Ethan Surowiec. It turned into a home run derby by the Gators.

Florida pitcher Aidan King only lasted 3.0 innings, allowing eight hits and six runs against three strikeouts, but Miami starter AJ Ciscar didn’t make it out of the first. The Hurricanes used nine pitchers in the game while UF threw just four arms. Barberi (5-2) earned the win with 3.2 innings pitched, four Ks, three hits, two runs and two walks.

Florida had a two-game sweep of the Hurricanes during non-conference play, winning the opener 7-2 and taking the series with an 8-4 victory before the finale was cancelled due to weather. UF is one win away from the Gainesville Regional title and advancing to the Super Regionals.
