GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators suffered a 10-2 season-ending loss to Troy in the Gainesville Regional final on Monday. The Trojans advanced to the Super Regional for the first time in program history.

Troy took a 2-0 lead in the first with a two RBI double by Jimmy Janicki against UF starting pitcher Cooper Walls. He only lasted one inning after giving up two leadoff walks and two hits, earning his third loss (3-3) of the year.

The Gators scored their first run in the fifth before Troy took control with a five-spot in the sixth. Kevin O’Sullivan made a questionable move in the inning, pulling reliever Caden McDonald for Russell Sandefer and it backfired.

Sandefer walked three straight batters to load the bases and was taken out for Ernesto Lugo-Canchola, who gave up three consecutive RBI hits that scored five runs, including a double by Gainesville Regional MVP Jabe Boroff.

Kyle Jones had his second RBI single in the seventh to cut the deficit to 7-2, but the Trojans put the game away in the eighth with a three-run homer from Boroff, who finished with a team-high three hits (3-for-4) and five RBI.
