It seems that Kirby Smart and his Georgia football program regularly have something unexpected in the works. That was illustrated again on Sunday as the Bulldogs, per sources, made another late addition to the 2026 class in Flower Branch wideout Tre Shields. DawgsHQ is told that Shields is considered a late qualifier for the class.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound wideout flew well under the radar in the 2026 class, but had a tremendous senior season for the Falcons. Shields racked up 54 catches for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns, leading the team in all three categories. That comes out to 19.2 yards per reception, and he also averaged a shade under 104 receiving yards per game.

According to the Gainesville TImes, the 2025 season marked Shields return to the football field. He did not play as a sophomore or junior, but he exploded back onto the scene as a senior.

He finished off his high school career with a tremendous performance against Ware County. On November 14, Shields caught 10 passes for 203 yards and a touchdown. Shields scored in all but two of the Falcons’ games in 2025, and had three games of more than 150 yards to go with five of 100 yards or more. The play-making wideout also caught a pass of 35 or more yards in seven of Flowery Branch’s ten games last fall.

Shields is one of two late offensive additions for Georgia in the 2026 class. Back in April, Roswell running back Nick Peal announced that he would be signing with the Bulldogs. Peal, too, had a stellar senior season, amassing 192 carries for 1,395 yards and 19 touchdowns. He had seven games where he ran for over 100 yards, including a tremendous performance against Milton. Against one of the state’s top programs, Peal rushed 22 times for 234 yards and a score. Peal also caught 10 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns.

After allowing players to have a few weeks of free time in May, Georgia came back together as a team late last week and began summer workouts. The Bulldogs are expected to begin preseason camp around the start of August.
