Class of 2027 safety and four-star recruit Kaleb Elkins cut his list of potential suitors down to six earlier this week.

Among the schools in the mix for the 6-foot-3, 190-pound multi-sport athlete out of Indianapolis is the in-state Hoosiers.

Joining Indiana in Elkins’ top six is Ohio State, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Missouri and Oregon. Elkins spoke with TheHoosier.com to breakdown each of his six finalists.

Indiana: “IU is the reigning national champ and the home team. It’d be great to only drive an hour to see my family. They’re the hottest team in the country.”

Ohio State: “Ohio State has so much history and is a NFL pipeline. Everybody is watching when you play for a program like OSU. Elite talent, elite development.”

Vanderbilt: “Vandy has been one of my top schools since the beginning. Coach [Clark] Lea is a program changer. I love the energy he’s brought to the team.”

Tennessee: “Tennessee is electric. You can feel it as soon as you step on campus. Definitely a place I can see myself playing.”

Missouri: “Mizzou is headed in the right direction. I like what they do defensively. To be top three in the SEC in pass defense the last two years says a lot. Looking forward to getting on campus this weekend [March 14-15].”

Oregon: “Oregon is consistent. Everyone knows Oregon will be around come post season. Coach [Chris] Hampton is my guy. He’s somebody I’d really like to play for.”

Elkins is rated as the No. 339 overall player and the No. 5 player in the state of Indiana, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking.
