Hawkeyes land LB Carson Cooney
Linebacker Carson Cooney has made his college decision. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Illinois native announced his verbal commitment to the Iowa Hawkeyes today following a junior day visit to campus in Iowa City.
“It felt like home,” Cooney told HawkeyeReport.com.
A hard-hitting linebacker from Oswego High School, Cooney chose Iowa over scholarship offers from Illinois, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Michigan State, Indiana, Central Michigan, Kent State, and Ohio.
“It’s amazing,” said Cooney. “It has always been my dream to able to play at this level for a team like Iowa.”

Overall, he is commitment No. 4 for the Hawkeyes as he joins Joey VanWetzinga, Jimmy Sullivan, and Burke Gautcher, a fellow linebacker from the state of Illinois, in Iowa’s recruiting class of 2025.
“It’s a great group,” Cooney said. “I can’t wait to see where this linebacker room goes. It’s going to be something special for sure.”
