New RB target has emerged for Kentucky

Kentucky entered the 2022 season with six scholarship tailbacks on the roster, but three of them were in their senior year. The running back position could turn over quickly, and the Cats did not sign a player in the class of 2022.

Addressing tailback in the class of 2023 was always going to be a top priority for the program.

Kentucky had two commitments in the fold by July, but things can change fast in college football recruiting. Frankfort (Ky.) Franklin Country senior Kaden Moorman decomitted from the Wildcats on Oct. 21, and Birmingham (Ala.) Parker senior Khalifa Keith is currently being pursued heavily by South Carolina and Tennessee.

Therefore, contingency plans must be made.

Kentucky has hosted Douglasville (Ga.) South Paulding tailback Jamarion Wilcox for both an unofficial and official visit, but the coaching staff is still addressing some other options. One of those options emerged on Tuesday.

Cincinnati (Ohio) Winton Woods tailback Trey Cornist has received a verbal scholarship offer from Kentucky.

The 5-foot-10, 220-pound tailback was also offered by Michigan State on Tuesday. Cornist committed to Georgia Tech in June only to back off that pledge last week following the firing of head coach Geoff Collins in Atlanta. Cornist attends the same high school that Mike Edwards and Chris Oats both called home. Kentucky is also still actively recruiting Cincinnati commit Cameron Calhoun out of Winton Woods.

Kentucky seems determined to address running back with multiple scholarship players this recruiting cycle. Trey Cornist is a name to know as signing day is just over a month away.
