Los Angeles Rams waive former Kentucky running back AJ Rose
Last weekend, AJ Rose punched in a preseason touchdown for the Los Angeles Rams. Seven days later, he’s looking for a new NFL home.
Rose was waived by the Rams on Saturday afternoon, the franchise announced. A former Kentucky Wildcat running back, he spent four seasons in Lexington from 2017-20 before heading for the NFL. He initially signed with the Minnesota Vikings out of college but was waived earlier this summer. The 6-foot-1 tailback was then picked up by the Rams on June 15 and played in the team’s preseason debut against the Los Angeles Chargers.

During his short time with the Vikings last year, Rose racked up 100 yards in his NFL preseason debut and caught a pass for 18 yards. He performed well in his three games but remained on the practice squad once the regular season began before ultimately being waived. With the Rams this preseason, Rose registered 29 rushing yards on 11 attempts, including the lone touchdown.
During his time with Kentucky, Rose totaled 1,971 rushing yards to rank tenth in UK history. The big-play back averaged 5.8 yards per carry, the third-best mark by a Kentucky rusher, and won three straight bowl games.
Best of luck to Rose on his next professional move.
