LSU adds senior transfer Dji Bailey from Richmond

Coming off of a visit to LSU over the weekend, Richmond guard Dji Bailey has committed to LSU, Joe Tipton of On3 broke on social media. Bailey is a 6-foot-5 scorer from Wilson, North Carolina who spent four years at Richmond before entering the portal in late March.

The Wilson, North Carolina native averaged 10.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists this past season, starting 24 games and playing 31.1 minutes in 33 contests. He finished the season ranked first in the A-10 in field goal percentage at 59.4 percent and also had 1.7 steals per game.

He was named the Atlantic 10’s Most Improved Player after his scoring jumped from three points per game as a junior to over 10 as a senior. In his first three years at Richmond, he was not impactful as a scorer, averaging 1.8, 1.9, and 3.0 points in those three seasons, but his numbers took a massive jump in 2024 and now command some serious attention in the transfer portal.

Bailey scored 15 points in the final game of the season against Virginia Tech in 35 minutes in the first round of the NIT.

LSU is now up to 12 scholarship players, reaching its limit for the 2024-25 season. Matt McMahon’s program is in the final year of a self-imposed scholarship suspension and will return to the normal 13-player scholarship cap in 2025. For now, LSU continues to rebuild its roster after losing several veterans, including seniors Jordan Wright, Trae Hannibal, and Will Baker. LSU has added Cam Carter from Kansas State, Jordan Sears from UT Martin, and now Bailey from Richmond. In addition, the Tigers have a top-15 class of freshman coming in with Vyctorious Miller, Robert Miller, and Curtis Givens, a trio of four-star prospects who can help McMahon’s team this season.
