It’s No. 2 Notre Dame (13-2) vs. No. 1 Princeton (16-2) at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Va., at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN. Follow along below for live updates of the match.
Live updates: Notre Dame men’s lacrosse national championship game vs. Princeton
Final: Princeton 16, Notre Dame 9
05/25/2026 02:31:20 PMThe Fighting Irish fall short of another national championship, and the Tigers have their first since 2001.
GOAL: Princeton 14, Notre Dame 8
05/25/2026 02:14:24 PMWith 10 minutes to go, the Tigers are back ahead by half a dozen. Time is ticking for the Irish.
GOAL: Princeton 13, Notre Dame 8
05/25/2026 02:13:31 PMJosh Yago doesn’t want his dream of finishing his career with a natty to die. He scores on a heck of an individual effort storming around the cage. The game is not ever just yet.
End 3: Princeton 13, Notre Dame 7
05/25/2026 02:04:31 PMIt was a great quarter for the Irish and all they could do was trim the margin by two goals. Credit Princeton for keeping them at arm’s length. It’s asking a lot for Notre Dame to make up six goals worth of ground in the final frame, but that’s what needs to happen for the Irish to get the job done.
GOAL: Princeton 13, Notre Dame 7
05/25/2026 01:59:46 PMEvery Princeton goal from here on out makes things much tougher for Notre Dame to come all the way back. The Tigers tack on to their lead with just over 2:00 left in the third quarter.
Notre Dame nearly gets another
05/25/2026 01:58:12 PMThe Irish had one of their best offensive sets of the game going but came away with nothing to show for it because of shots fired high and wide. A goal there to pull within 12-8 late in the third quarter would have really got a buzz going for ND. Instead, it’s still 12-7. The Tigers have the ball.
GOAL: Princeton 12, Notre Dame 7
05/25/2026 01:55:18 PMBoth goalies made saves with Notre Dame a man up. First it was Princeton’s Croddick. Notre Dame’s Ricciardelli responded. Then Luke Miller scored his team-leading 34th goal to pull the Irish within five goals. Suddenly, the Fighting Irish have life in a game they trailed by eight goals at halftime.
GOAL: Princeton 12, Notre Dame 6
05/25/2026 01:49:01 PMFreshman Dylan Faison, another dual-sport star who plays football at ND, sizzles one in. If anything, the Irish certainly aren’t going away, outscoring Princeton 3-1 through the first half of the third quarter. Another 3-1 spurt in the second half of the third quarter, or maybe more, and perhaps we’ll have a ballgame going into the fourth quarter. Obviously so much to be done for Notre Dame on both ends of the field before getting to that point. But the Irish are doing what they needed to not lay down, and that’s encouraging.
GOAL: Princeton 12, Notre Dame 5
05/25/2026 01:45:42 PMIt won’t be an 11-goal streak like Princeton had for the Irish. The Tigers stop ND’s second-half scoring streak at two, which isn’t a dagger but the Irish would have sure loved to keep the comeback going by piling on more and more.
GOAL: Princeton 11, Notre Dame 5
05/25/2026 01:43:56 PMWill Angrick gets another one to go. The Irish needed to be the aggressors in the early stages of the second half, and that’s what they’ve been. The only way they’re going to come back is one goal at a time. So far, they’ve got back-to-back tallies to start the third quarter.
GOAL: Princeton 11, Notre Dame 4
05/25/2026 01:38:16 PMMatt Jeffery gets the ball to the low slot and Will Angrick sticks with the play to fire it into the back of the net. That’s the Irish’s first goal since roughly the 10:00 minute mark of the first quarter.
HALFTIME: Princeton 11, Notre Dame 3
05/25/2026 01:17:28 PMThe Tigers have a 33-15 advantage in shot attempts and a 23-9 edge in shots on goal. Everything is going as poorly as it can for the Irish outside of Thomas Ricciardelli’s 12 saves, twice as many as his counterpart’s at the other end of the field.
GOAL: Princeton 11, Notre Dame 3
05/25/2026 01:16:46 PMThe Irish cannot stop the bleeding. It’s 11 goals in a row for the Tigers.
GOAL: Princeton 10, Notre Dame 3
05/25/2026 01:15:35 PMTen. Ten unanswered goals for the Tigers. It’s been as bad as it sounds for the Irish, who have not scored in 25 minutes of game time.
GOAL: Princeton 9, Notre Dame 3
05/25/2026 01:11:55 PMEverything Notre Dame is unable to do offensively, Princeton is doing it and then some when the Tigers have the ball. They’re absolutely abusing the Irish’s defensive efforts, leaving Ricciardelli without much of a chance on many of these goals.
GOAL: Princeton 8, Notre Dame 3
05/25/2026 01:10:17 PMThe tidal wave continues for the Tigers. They get a stop on one end and another goal on the other. Eight straight tallies for the top team in the nation.
GOAL: Princeton 7, Notre Dame 3
05/25/2026 01:05:51 PMIt’s getting late early for the Fighting Irish. That’s seven consecutive goals for the Tigers, now up by four with 6:23 to play in the first half.
Thomas Ricciardelli is keeping Notre Dame in it
05/25/2026 01:03:45 PMThe Irish goalie has 11 first-half saves, and two of his best came in rapid succession with the Tigers threatening to make the score 7-3 before the halfway mark of the second quarter. Without Ricciardelli, this game could be effectively over. It’s still 6-3. The Irish need to help out their man in the net.
GOAL: Princeton 6, Notre Dame 3
05/25/2026 12:54:14 PMPrinceton scores in the first minute of the man-up situation for the Tigers. It’s six unanswered goals for the No. 1 team in the country, which has gathered full control of the game in the early part of the second quarter. Notre Dame has not scored in over 14 minutes of game time.
Another two-minute, non-releasable goal on Notre Dame
05/25/2026 12:52:19 PMKevin Corrigan voiced frustration about his team’s lack of discipline in a mid-game interview with ESPN’s Dana Boyle. The Irish didn’t get the message. Another infraction, this one on Christian Alacqua, has an ability to adversely affect the Irish.
GOAL: Princeton 5, Notre Dame 3
05/25/2026 12:48:56 PMTwo goals in five seconds for the Tigers. They’ve won half a dozen face offs in a row, and the Irish are reeling. This is the danger zone for ND.
GOAL: Princeton 4, Notre Dame 3
05/25/2026 12:47:30 PMThe Tigers keep rolling with their fourth consecutive goal. They take their first lead at the 13:01 mark of the second quarter. Time for the Irish to dig deep and find something.
End 1: Notre Dame 3, Princeton 3
05/25/2026 12:42:07 PMNotre Dame has not scored in over 10 minutes of game time, but the Irish did well defensively at the end of the quarter to keep the game tied. It’s going to be a back and forth affair all afternoon, most likely. Both teams will have runs. Notably, Thomas Ricciardelli has 8 saves to Princeton’s goalie’s 3. He’s been tested, and he’s been up to the test.
Thomas Ricciardelli makes massive save
05/25/2026 12:39:06 PMA minute into the man-down situation for ND, Thomas Ricciardelli faced a point-blank shot on a bang-bang play and he trapped it with his mesh. The ball goes back to the Irish, and they can kill the rest of the penalty time without surrendering so much as one goal. There is 59 seconds left in the first quarter, 55 seconds on ND’s shot clock and 30 seconds of penalty time.
Notre Dame takes two-minute locked penalty
05/25/2026 12:35:47 PMThe Irish’s Fisher Finley cross checked a Princeton player in the head, and he’s off the field for two minutes of locked penalty time. This is a massive moment in the game with just over two minutes left in the first quarter.
GOAL: Notre Dame 3, Princeton 3
05/25/2026 12:33:00 PMThe Tigers have done a good job of going low to high, moving the ball from behind the net to a shooting area quickly, and they’ve hit their mark enough times to tie the game at three-all. It was never going to be easy for the Irish. They’re in one now.
Princeton goes to a zone defense
05/25/2026 12:31:49 PMNotre Dame has had a few empty possessions in a row, and it’s largely due to Princeton setting up a zone and the Irish being unable to penetrate it. ND has turned it over a few times of late.
Notre Dame undergoing problems in the face off circle
05/25/2026 12:29:41 PMPrinceton has won four of the first six face offs, with help from some Irish violations. The Irish cannot afford to keep giving a potent Tigers offense so many possessions. They can score in a hurry.
GOAL: Notre Dame 3, Princeton 2
05/25/2026 12:25:06 PMThe Tigers win the face off after their first goal and go down and get another. It’s obvious when they’re really humming, they can whip the ball around and even keep a defensive-minded team like Notre Dame on its heels. This could be a shootout in Charlottesville.
GOAL: Notre Dame 3, Princeton 1
05/25/2026 12:23:08 PMThe Tigers get the ball moving around and the Irish aren’t able to keep up with it. It’s a good goal for Princeton, which was desperate to do anything to stamp its arrival in the match. It has done so now.
GOAL: Notre Dame 3, Princeton 0
05/25/2026 12:18:52 PMMatt Jeffery, a wide receiver on Marcus Freeman’s football team, does it himself, working his way from left to right to get leverage on his defender, and rips the ball past the Princeton goalie. The Tigers call a timeout, trailing by three in the first five minutes of the game.
GOAL: Notre Dame 2, Princeton 0
05/25/2026 12:17:14 PMThe Irish put forth another tenacious defensive possession and turn it into offense at the other end of the field. It’s the team’s leading point-getter, Josh Yago, who gets free in the slot and lets one rip. What a first five minutes for the Irish.
GOAL: Notre Dame 1, Princeton 0
05/25/2026 12:14:36 PMWill Maheras starts the scoring for ND. The Irish got a save out of Thomas Ricciardelli after Princeton won the opening face off. Then Maheras made good on a wraparound in tight quarters to beat the Tigers’ goalie.
Here come the Irish
05/25/2026 11:59:37 AMNotre Dame has arrived at Scott Stadium.
