BREAKING: Four-star PG Marcus Johnson decommits from Ohio State
COLUMBUS – One week after landing one of the top prospects in the 2026 class, Ohio State basketball has lost a member of its highly-ranked recruiting class.
Four-star Cleveland (Ohio) Garfield Heights point guard Marcus Johnson has decommitted from the Buckeyes. Johnson was the first high school commitment for Jake Diebler after being named head coach. He had been to Ohio State since April of 2024.
Rivals rates Johnson as the No. 83 overall prospect and No. 11 point guard in the 2026 class. He is the No. 45 overall prospect and No. 7 point guard in the Rivals Industry Ranking.
Johnson won the 2024-25 Ohio Mr. Basketball Award as a junior. He averaged 29.7 points per game, along with 5.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 2.2 steals last season. He helped lead the Bulldogs to the OHSAA Division III State Semifinals where they lost to Louisville (Ohio)

With Marcus Johnson’s decommitment, Ohio State is down to two commitments in the class. The Buckeyes received a commitment from five-star Hudson (Ohio) Western Reserve Academy small forward Anthony Thompson last Monday. Thompson is the highest-ranked prospect to commit to the Buckeyes since D’Angelo Russell in the 2014 class. Four-star Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Prolific Prep power forward Alex Smith is also in the fold. Smith made the move from Upper Arlington (Ohio) to Prolific Prep this offseason.
