ToC Short Sessions: Former Rebel and Auburn native Cody Core talks Ole Miss’ trip to The Plains
Former Ole Miss Rebel and NFL wide receiver Cody Core joins the show this week on a special Talk of Champions Short Sessions. The Auburn, Ala., native regales us with tales of his upbringing in an SEC town, picking Ole Miss and what this weekend’s matchup will be like for both teams.
Core explains the locker room vibe for both a team favored and on track to win double-digit games. And he will talk about the mindset for a team with its backs against the wall. The former Rebel talks about his experiences being the hunted and what’s like to be in a locker room with Hugh Freeze.
He also gives his thoughts on a much-improved Ole Miss defense under the guidance of first-year coordinator Pete Golding. Core gives his take on the keys to victory and how he expects this SEC West game to shake out.
Ole Miss (5-1, 2-1 SEC) is a comfortable road favorite on Saturday.
However, the Rebels are expecting a tough test in Auburn (3-3, 0-3), historically a tough place for Ole Miss to play. The Rebels have won once there in the last 20 years.

“I’ve heard Jordan-Hare (Stadium) is pretty loud,” Ole Miss linebacker Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste said Tuesday. “It’s a hostile environment. We’ve got the crowd noise (in practice), but we’re preparing every way to be prepared for it. We continue to take things 1-0 weekly and find a way to get better each and every week. During the bye week, we took major emphasis on tackling.
“Setting up different kinds of drills to work on our tackling in field and out field and handle our business there, “Jean-Baptiste said. “Just coming out and starting fast, really.”
