Along with earning all-state honors in high school, Andre Carter was an On3 Consensus three-star prospect coming out of Detroit Cass Tech in the 2018 recruiting class. He originally signed with Western Michigan over offers from Cincinnati, Purdue, Iowa State, Boston College and others. After playing in four games in 2018, Carter became a staple for the Broncos in 2019, recording 23 tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks. In the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season, he saw action in five games and recorded 1.5 tackles for a loss and .5 sacks. Carter ramped things back up in 2021 with 30 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss and three sacks. In 2022, he had 68 tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss, seven sacks and two forced fumbles. He turned a lot of heads for his play against Pitt with 11 tackles in that game and he also earned second-team All-MAC honors. After the 2022 season, Carter entered the Transfer Portal.
