During the 2021-2022 season, Ashley Joens became the first two-time winner of the Cheryl Miller Award, given to the nation's top small forward. Joens earned second-team All-America honors from the Associated Press and USBWA, and she was a unanimous selection for the All-Big 12 First Team for the third time in her career at Iowa State. Joens averaged 20.3 points, scoring in double figures in all 34 games, going for over 30 four times and over 20 on 19 occasions.
