CJ Carr Scouting Summary
Charles Power
06/12/23

Polished quarterback with a technically developed skill set. Measured at around 6-foot-2.5, 195 pounds prior to his senior season. Hand size has measured between 9.25 and 9.5 inches. Registers as average athlete with good quickness, running a 4.94 second 40-yard dash, 4.26 second shuttle and jumping 26.7 inches in the vertical at the Elite 11 regional. Has a quick, easy release that is easily replicated. Consistently spins the ball well, throwing a tight spiral. Shows the ability to layer the ball and throw with touch. Flashes functional movement skills and reactive quickness in the pocket. Capable of making off-script plays at times. Looks most comfortable in neutral, on-air settings at this stage. Completed 68.1% of his passes for 2,685 yards and 26 touchdowns against 5 interceptions. Plays in a high school offense that features a high percentage of short, quick passes. Can increase decisiveness as a player on Friday nights as his arm strength tends to show up more in neutral settings. Showed some signs of improvement late in his junior season but can improve his efficiency as a passer with his 8.2 yards per attempt being on the low end among 2024 blue-chip quarterbacks.

Personal Life

CJ Carr first turned heads because of his family connections with the Michigan Wolverine program. He is the grandson of legendary Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, who guided the program from 1995-2007, compiled a 122-40 record and won the 1997 national championship. Carr’s maternal grandfather is Tom Curtis, a former All-American and College Football Hall of Fame Michigan safety. Jason Carr, Lloyd’s son and CJ’s father, was a quarterback at Michigan in the 1990s. His mother, Tammi, also graduated from Michigan. But CJ also established his own name on the football field after not being allowed to play until the seventh grade. He threw for 2,696 yards with 28 touchdowns with four interceptions, completing 156 of 243 attempts as a sophomore. Carr was named to the 2021 Associated Press Michigan Division 1-2 first-team offense. He was also listed on the 2021 Michigan Division 1 Region 2 first team. Carr backed that up with a successful junior season that saw him develop into one of the country’s most coveted high school quarterback recruits. Yet, he’s still developing, according to his private trainer. “CJ is elite on the board,” Will Hewlett with QB Collective told On3’s BlueandGold.com. “He loves football. He has the complete package. He has the athleticism and the arm, and he has the mind. I’ve heard more compliments on that kid than just about any quarterback I’ve worked with. People are so impressed by his ability to execute on the board, in the classroom and on the field. He has the complete QB package.”
