Personal Life

Darrell Luter Jr. was an On3 Consensus three-star recruit coming out of Poplarville (Mississippi) Oak Grove High School in the 2018 recruiting class. However, he had to attend Pearl River (Mississippi) Community College after high school. It was at Pearl River that he earned second-team all-conference honors. He racked up 19 tackles and eight pass breakups during his sophomore season. Luter selected South Alabama over Houston and Coastal Carolina coming out of the junior college ranks. As a junior in 2020, he appeared in all 11 games and tied for the lead in tackles at the cornerback spot. Luter then exploded on the national scene in 2021. He was named second-team All-America by Pro Football Focus and earned first-team All-Sunbelt Conference honors. In addition to posting 21 total stops, Luter paced the Jaguars with both four interceptions and 10 other passes defensed. He led the Sun Belt in passes defended per game and was second in interceptions per contest. He also ended up third in the nation in passes defended per outing while ranking seventh in interceptions per game. Son of Darrell Sr. and Darlene Luter. He is majoring in sport management and recreation studies.
