David Castillo Scouting Summary
Jamie Shaw
04/18/23

David Castillo is a consummate leader on the floor. He takes care of the ball as the lead guard and can knock down shots consistently, with range. While his game is not as dynamic as other guards, his value lies in making basketball plays and enhancing the play of those around him. He is a sturdy guard. The shooting is real so there is comfort with him off the ball as well, in multi-guard line-ups. He understands positioning on defense and gives good effort on that end. Long term you wonder about the height and the explosive pop, but there are a lot of winning attributes that he will carry with him to college.

Personal Life

David Castillo already has two gold medals on his resume after winning the 2021 FIBA Americas U16 Championship and 2022 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup with the USA Basketball National Team. Castillo eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in his first two seasons at Bartlesville (Oklahoma) High School. As a sophomore, he was named a first-team all-state selection after averaging 24.7 points and 5.4 points. As a freshman, he averaged 23.7 points, which was the most by anyone at Bartlesville since 20025. In the summer Castillo plays AAU for Oklahoma’s Team Griffin. “I get all my teammates involved, and I really think I can make my teammates better,” Castillo told On3’s Joe Tipton. “I think I have a really good shooting ability, especially off the pick-and-roll. I’d say I’m a three-level scorer, able to play in the mid-range area, floaters. I think I’m a fast player, too. Up and down. I can push in transition and make plays. I’m really just an all-around point guard.”
