Personal Life

Jalen Wydermyer heroics on the football field will always pale in comparison to the bravery he displayed in 2017 when Hurricane Harvey came through his hometown of Dickinson, Texas. He was at a friend’s house when the rainfall started. The water level quickly rose to around his bellybutton. In the house at the time were a 5-year-old girl and a 7-month-old baby. He and his friend sprang into action and looked for somewhere safe for the two young children. They found a two-story house about a half-mile away. Wydermyer then returned to rescue his friend’s family’s pets before going to look for his family. “I can’t explain how proud I am of him not running away from the situation but stepping up,” his father told NFL Network. Wydermyer started 11 games in 2019 and was named to the SEC All-Freshman team. He was second team All-SEC in 2020 and a John Mackey Award finalist. He is the son of Tremona and Vincent Wydermyer. He is one of eight Wydermyer children.
