Jaylen Harrell was a top-50 prospect in the Sunshine State coming out of Tampa's Berkley Prep in the 2020 recruiting class. Harrell had a career-high in high school of 106 tackles and 20 tackles for a loss. Harrell appeared in four games as a freshman and went on to appear in all 14 games in 2021. He racked up 15 tackles and one quarterback hurry, earning his second varsity letter. In 2022, Harrell appeared in 13 games with 12 starts at EDGE. He had 30 tackles, 7.5 tackles for a loss and 3.5 sacks that season. In 2023, Harrell was an honorable mention all-league pick and he earned Defensive Player of the Week honors four times for the Wolverines.
