Jer'ZhanNewton

Jer'Zhan Newton was an On3 Consensus three-star recruit coming out of Clearwater (Florida) Central Catholic High School. He was committed to Toledo at one point before signing with the Illini. In 2020 as a freshman, Newton played in all eight games and started two at defensive tackle. He became only the 18th true freshman to start a game on the defensive line at Illinois. Then in 2021, Newton earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors. He was also an academic all-conference pick after recording 50 tackles, four tackles for a loss and three sacks. His brothers, Jervon and Jerquan, played football at West Florida. He is majoring in general studies and plans on designing and building cars following his playing career.
