Personal Life

Joey Porter Jr. wants to follow in the footsteps of both of his parents. Following in his father’s footsteps is the more visual one. Joey Porter was a 13-year pro with the Steelers, Dolphins and Cardinals. He earned All-Pro first-team honors twice and All-Pro second-team honors three times in his NFL career. While Porter doesn’t play the same position as his father, he has the same NFL ambitions. He also has had three cousins play DI football: Jason Gildon at Oklahoma State, Larry Birdine Jr. at Oklahoma State and Sheldon Croney Jr. at Iowa State. Gildon and Birdine also played in the NFL. Porter Jr. is majoring in rehabilitation and human services because he hopes to one day take over The Jasmine Nyree Day Center, which is run by his mother Christy. The Jasmine Nyree Day Center is a Pittsburgh-area facility that offers programs and help for adults with special needs.
