Personal Life

Jonah Elliss was ranked as the top overall prospect coming out of Idaho's 2021 recruiting class. The Moscow High native saw action in 14 games in 2021 as a reserve linebacker, before having a breakout 2022 season. As a sophomore, Elliss earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors after recording 26 tackles and six tackles for a loss at EDGE. He also was a team leader in both forced fumbles (2) and fumble recoveries (2) in 2022. He further emerged as one of the top defenders in college football during the 2023 season. Through nine games, Elliss had already been named Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week twice, and he was also named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week after recording 10 tackles, five tackles for a loss and 3.5 sacks against UCLA. "It's just the time of preparation that I put into it," Elliss said when asked about his success in 2023. "I think I spend a lot more time this year than I have in the past, and I've really locked into being the best I can be." His father, Luther, was a first-team all-conference and All-American and Utah from 1991 to 1994 before going on to play in the NFL for 10 years. His father has spent years as an assistant coach in college football.
