Trenton Simpson arrived at Clemson ahead of the 2020 season as an On3 five-star recruit from Charlotte Mallard Creek High School. Simpson was also ranked as the No. 22 recruit in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. During his time at Clemson, Simpson racked 187 tackles (22.5 for loss), 12.5 sacks, six pass breakups and three forced fumbles in 1,443 snaps over 37 games, including 27 starts. Along with his on-the-field accolades, Simpson was also a two-time Academic All-ACC Team selection. During the 2022 season, Simpson was a Butkus Award semifinalist and a third-team All-ACC pick. He tied for third on the team with 77 tackles (4.0 for loss), 2.5 sacks, three pass breakups and two forced fumbles in 616 defensive snaps over 12 games. Simpson earned a degree in sports communication in December 2022. He is the son of Command Sgt. Maj. Timothy D. Simpson, who served 17 overseas tours from 1994-21 in his decorated career with the U.S. Army Rangers.
