Trey Benson was a top-35 running back recruit coming out of Greenville (Mississippi) St. Joseph High School in the Class of 2020. Benson began his college career at Oregon, where he rushed six times for 22 yards and a touchdown in his redshirt freshman season. He missed the 2020 season at Oregon because of an injury. After transferring to Florida State ahead of the 2022 season and getting a fresh start, Benson emerged as one of the best backs in college football. He finished 2022 with 990 yards and nine touchdowns, earning second-team All-ACC honors. Benson was also named FSU's Newcomer of the Year after breaking a PFF College single-season record by forcing 0.51 missed tackles per rush in 2022. Benson continue to have success in 2022, topping 200 yards against Virginia Tech and scoring three touchdowns against Southern Miss. But it was his three touchdown runs in a comeback victory over Florida in The Swamp that cemented his status as one of the nation's best. "He can do it all," teammate Keon Coleman said.
