Tyler Betsey Scouting Summary
Jamie Shaw
08/18/22

Tyler Betsey has excellent length and a projectable frame. He is a smooth shooter with a quick release and deep range. He is a threat off the catch, with outstanding balance and a high, repeatable release. He uses his length in the passing lanes with natural instincts, getting a lot of deflections. He can also move his feet with wings, staying with them with his lateral quickness and length. Betsey is a good athlete. He needs to continue to develop off the bounce, creating for himself, but he plays efficiently in the half-court and acts as an excellent floor spacer. He is good in straight lines, getting to the rim on ball rotations. Would like to see develop some middle game on offense. Strength will be a big thing for him moving forward, but he is developing into the three-and-d type of prospect that is so valuable in today's game.

Personal Life

Tyler Betsey was one of the most prolific shooters on Nike’s EYBL Circuit in the summer of 2022, shooting 40% from beyond the arc. “My handle is becoming a weapon,” Betsey told On3’s Jamie Shaw. “I’ve got a bigger role on my high school team than I had in AAU, but I’ve got a lot more moves in my bag. I’m getting downhill and getting to the free-throw line a lot this season. I watch a lot of Paul George, he is 6-foot-10, and he really has a handle. He knows how to use it, get to his spots and get buckets.” Betsey began his high school career at Windsor (Connecticut) High School before transferring to St. Thomas More to play under local legendary coach Jere Quinn. Quinn said it only took a few minutes for him to realize that Betsey was special. “I watched him for a half hour,” Quinn told The Day. “He’s a high-level player. Tyler is a wonderful young man and he’s responding. What’s nice about Tyler, the reason he has a chance is he’s a hard worker. He’s exactly where he needs to be. He needs to play in a competitive game all the time.”
