Reminds Us Of

Alex Leatherwood
Alex Leatherwood
OT / 6-6 / 322
AlabamaAlabama · HS Class of 2017
Las Vegas2021 Draft · Rnd 1 · Pick 17

Tyler Booker and Alex Leatherwood share several similarities, aside from the Alabama connection. Both measured at nearly the exact same size as high school prospects, within one pound (6-foot-5, 326, 327 pounds). Booker may actually be a touch longer than Leatherwood, who was a Five-Star Plus+ prospect in the 2017 cycle. The younger lineman is also more technically polished at the same stage. Both are good, but not top athletes at the position and have the versatility to play multiple spots on the offensive line at tackle or guard. The ready-made size and play strength allow for a high floor and the ability to contribute early on as a college player. We saw Leatherwood pressed into action as a true freshman at Alabama, playing left tackle during the College Football Playoff Final. It would not be a surprise to see Booker in the mix early on in his collegiate career either.

Tyler Booker Scouting Summary
Charles Power
10/29/21

Versatile, competitive offensive lineman who thrives as a mauling drive blocker in the run game. Started as a right tackle for national power IMG Academy as an underclassman before moving to left tackle as a sophomore. Has outstanding length with a near 7-foot wingspan and big hands. Locks on defensive lineman and ferociously works to finish blocks. Shows impressive upper body strength at the point of attack. Plays with high energy on a snap by snap basis. A good, not elite athlete for the position. Tends to bend at the waist and lunge at times in pass protection. Likely projects as an interior offensive lineman at the next level given his skill set. Still has positional versatility with experience at both tackle spots to be a swing tackle if needed. Has been a leader for the IMG program for a few seasons.

Personal Life

As an interior offensive lineman Tyler Booker knows there are few opportunities to get in the spotlight – unless you mess up on or off the field. So that's why Booker has taken control of brand all the way from his RespeCT custom-designed chain with a nod to his home state of Connecticut to the way he engages with the fans and media. “We’re one of the few sports where athletes aren’t as recognizable,” Booker said at SEC Media Days ahead of the 2024 season. “We literally play with a helmet on. Other sports have their stories told. I feel like I have a very unique story and I want to have my story told. Doing media gives me the avenue to do so. Control your narrative. Have in your mind what narrative you want to push out, and whatever question is given to you, make sure you push out your narrative during it.” On the field, Booker is the one that pushes around opponents. During the 2023 season, he was a first-team All-SEC pick by the Associated Press and second-team all-league pick by conference coaches. "I play at 100% at all times," Booker said. "When you see that you've made another man quit, give up, get out of character, you know you just have so much power over him. And it's one of the best feelings in the world."
