Zion Kearney Scouting Summary
Charles Power
05/25/23

Explosive pass-catcher with one of the best size-speed combinations among wide receivers in the 2024 cycle. Has a muscled physically developed build with a thick lower body. Measured at 6-foot-2, 198 pounds prior to his senior season. Has average length for the position with a 31.5-inch arm. Has flashed high-end speed in several settings. Posted a personal best of 10.89 seconds in the 100 meters during his junior track season. A natural deep threat, with the speed to stack and blow by cornerbacks off the line of scrimmage. Has an easy, smooth stride. Pulls away from defenses in the open field. Flashes vertical athleticism in elevating to make in-air grabs in traffic. His speed and size (which resembles a running back) makes for a threat in the quick and screen game. Shows encouraging tracking ability in coming down with over-the-shoulder catches. Also has some physicality as a blocker. Increased his production as a junior, catching 39 passes for 765 yards and eight touchdowns. More of a straight-line athlete who is a deep threat and quick game target. Can improve his wiggle. Does not run a varied route tree and will need to refine route-running to maximize his upside and become a target in the intermediate area.

Personal Life

Missouri City (Texas) Hightown coach Cornelius Anthony played college football at Texas A&M. So, he knows what it takes to be a star on the next level. That’s what makes his praise of Zion Kearney even more noteworthy. After catching 12 passes for 330 yards and three scores in 2021, Kearney caught 39 passes for 765 yards and eight touchdowns in 2022. Those numbers helped him earn unanimous first-team all-district honors as a junior. He also was timed at 4.28 seconds in the 40-yard dash at a TCU summer camp. “He’s fast, he’s confident, he’s got a great football IQ, and he makes plays when it matters,” Anthony told FanNation about Kearney. “He’s only going to get better and better. The sky is the limit with Zion.”
