Mother of Georgia TE Lawson Luckie comments on 'scary' hit

Georgia tight end Lawson Luckie lay motionless on the field after a hit that ended up being called targeting by a Mississippi State defensive back.

Luckie eventually walked off the field on Saturday. He did not return to the game on Saturday. Georgia head coach Kirby Smart gave a positive outlook on the overall health of the junior tight end following the game in his press conference.

“He obviously got a shot to the head, and he’s fine,” Smart told reporters after the game. “He’s moving. He wanted to go back in the game. The decision makers held him.” 

The hit was a scary one that drew reaction from those watching around the country. Luckie’s mother, Hillary Luckie, took to Facebook to provide even more positive news on the junior tight end’s health following the hit.

“Thank you so much to everyone that reached out checking on Lawson. I wish I could’ve responded to every message, but there were literally 100’s. I was overwhelmed by how much love and support everyone showed for him. It was really scary for a few minutes. I think it’s probably every football parent’s biggest fear to see your child get hit like that and not move. He’s doing well today and will continue to get better. Thanks again for all the well wishes and prayers.”

Luckie is a Georgia legacy. His father, Mike Luckie, and uncles Dustin Luckie and Miles Luckie played for the Bulldogs. His younger brother, Carter Luckie, is a four-star defensive line commit in the 2026 recruiting class.

Luckie has caught 10 passes for 81 yards and three touchdowns this season for Georgia.
